The maps here represent the geography used to make the rate estimate. Geographies can be 3-digit zip code (smallest origin area used for estimates), market area, expanded market area, region or national (largest origin area specific to the lane).
Geographies change in order to encompass enough loads to produce an accurate rate. If there are fewer than 3 contributors or fewer than 7 reports, the geography (or the time frame) will expand until this criteria is met. Seeing the geography of the origin and destination used to calculate the rate can help you to know how the market rate relates to a specific load with a very specific origin and destination.
Each map will also display the Load-to-Truck ratio of each geography, which will help you to understand which areas are hot, and which areas are not.
Clicking on one of the maps or the Load-to-Truck ratio will display the Hot Market information for that area. This information can be very useful when determining supply and demand for trucks in an area. Supply and demand can substantially impact a rate.
Tip: Knowing that there are more trucks than loads in a state can tell you that the rate for a carrier to go to that state will be higher as the carrier understands that they will have difficulty finding a return load. Carriers may ask for a higher rate to compensate for this.
Along with the geographies, you will also see the trip miles between your origin and destination in this view. Mileage values in RateView are provided by ALK (PC Miler) and are based on practical mileage.
You may also see Accessorials here if you are viewing the Shipper to Carrier Contract rate.
Types of accessorials included:
- Stop fees
- Load fees
- Unload fees
- Accessorials
- Fuel is NOT included
In the details section is where you will also see the per mile or flat rate for the selected time frame and geography as seen below.
- Broker-to-Carrier Spot and Shipper-to-Carrier Contract: Displays the rate information for your
lane. We will return either per mile or flat rate depending on the option you selected under settings. Fuel
Surcharge is included in that rate.
- High and Low Rate: Directly below the rate we display the high and low rate. This represents a
range of rates excluding the highest and lowest rates. 75% of rates are lower than the high rate. 25% of rates
are lower than the low rate.
- Reports and Companies: Reports is the number of loads that are part of the rate calculation.
Companies is the number of companies who submitted loads that are included in the rate calculation.
- Rate Calculator :
The rate calculator can be used to compute final price and margin consistently, accurately and quickly. Any of
the fields can be changed to match the user preferences and unaccounted for differences in the trip. The broker
rate calculator emphasizes margin calculations. For more information about using the rate calculator, click HERE.
Note: The rate calculator can be left open while performing any action on the single lane page. The calculator is updated with every new single lane rate search.
- Your own Rate: If you contribute your companies’ rates to us, we will display the average rate you paid out for that lane so you compare the rate to what we show on RateView.
