Does RateView adjust for seasonality or spikes?
Reported rates are not adjusted for the impact of seasonality. The seasonality of a lane rate can be seen on the 13 month graph of rates. We provide the historic data so the user can take seasonality and trends over the past year into account when using the rates. The Broker-to-Carrier Spot Rate is the rate over the most recent 7, 15, 30, 60, or 90 days or 1 year. The Shipper-to-Carrier Contract rate is for 90 days, 270 days, or 1 year.
Seasonality in produce seasons can have a big affect on rates. To get an accurate rate use the current rate, the changes over the 13 month rate history provided, and research this year’s produce season through the USDA fruit and vegetable report or other resources.
Minimum companies and reports for a rate
RateView will display an average rate when we have at least 7 records from 3 different companies.

Is reefer burn included in our fuel surcharge calculation?
Yes we include reefer burn in our fuel surcharge calculation this is why the miles per gallon we use in the calculation is less than the miles we use for Vans.
Historical data used to calculate the MAE
Ratecast's forecasted rates are based on how models have performed since January of 2019.
RateView supplementary calculations
The accessorials under Shipper Contracted are calculated using an average of the values listed below for the entire United States. We break them down by the equipment types of Van, Reefer and Flatbed. The Accessorial value is not included in the Linehaul amount listed in RateView.
Fees included in the Accessorial amount:
- Stop fees
- Load fees
- Unload fees
- Fuel is NOT included
Carrier demographics in the database
The carriers are an evenly distributed mix of large and small carriers. There is one very large carrier, but the majority of the carriers are evenly distributed according to size. This is done on purpose in order NOT to skew the data towards large carriers
Range of rates reported for each lane
In DAT RateView, the range is the range of rates excluding the top 25% of reported rates and the bottom 25% of reported rates. The high of the remaining middle 50% of rates is the high, the low of the remaining middle 50% of rates is the low.
Rate updates
We process rate files as soon as they are sent to us. The rate that displays in RateView and our other services is updated 2x a day. At 3:06 am and at 3:06 pm PST.
Why don't I see 3 day rates early in the week?
You may notice that you do not see as many 3-day rates in RateView at the beginning of the week. Rates are primarily received by contributors Monday thru Friday. This makes the 3-day rates on Monday and Tuesday of the week look less populated than later in the week, when DAT has more rate data.
Widening range as the graph goes out
This sort of ‘reverse funnel’ is due to the fact that the further you go into the future, the more difficult it is to forecast it.
Lanes not generating a forecast
Based on the trip type differences between RateView and Ratecast, there are times when they don't overlap based on the escalations of time-frame and geography.
How far back can I see historical data in RateView?
13 month. Simply use the scale to go out a year.
Are the rates in US dollars?
Yes, all of the rates shown on DAT are in US dollars.
